Morioka castle Ruins

Now a beautiful and serene park it once was the local seat of power of the Nanbu clan. The castle was built in 1611 and only exits now as massive stone walls surrounding garden paths and monuments.

The garden includes a wonderful walk along ponds and streams, and kids fishing for crawdads.

It was a national holiday, Sports Day, and we stumbled onto a craft fair. Not your street fair of t-shirts and macrome but exceedingly high quality items like a man that made very realistic birds or delicate hand forged spoons and pans.

One of our goals was to visit a craft store that John had walked by 35 years ago, on his way to a work lunch at Wanko Noodles, and knew that E would love to be there. And of course we stumbled onto an intimate courtyard performance.

And to round out the day we went to see the 400 plus year old Rock Splitting Cherry Tree.
